For the first time, National Drug Facts Week (NDFW) -- a week-long observance that gives teens factual information on drugs and drug abuse -- will include community events in all 50 states in the U.S. NDFW, an initiative of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will be held today through February 3, 2013. At more than 500 locations across the country, teens will be asking questions of addiction scientists or educators familiar with NIDA's scientific materials. Events are sponsored by a variety of organizations, including schools, community groups, sports clubs, book clubs, and local hospitals. As part of NDFW, NIDA will hold its fifth annual Drug Facts Chat Day, in which high school students across the country can “chat” anonymously and in real time with NIDA scientists to ask questions about drugs. NIDA also unveiled today its 2013 Drug IQ Challenge, an interactive 12-question multiple-choice quiz that teens and adults can take to test their knowledge about drugs.
