The NIDA International Program provided full tuition scholarships to researchers from California and Maryland to participate in the 2015 Dutch Summer Institute on Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction. Michael Lebsack-Coleman is a Ph.D. candidate at Claremont Graduate University, working to develop a brief intervention based on the theory of planned behavior targeting adolescents using alcohol and marijuana. He has worked on drug abuse research projects at the Tarzana Treatment Center, University of California, Los Angeles, and Loyola Marymount University. Andrew Ninnemann is a therapist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland, where he is studying risk factors for the initiation and progression of cigarette smoking and the use of novel psychoactive substances. He also has worked on substance abuse research projects at Brown University. The multidisciplinary summer training program in addiction research was held July 5–17, 2015, at the University of Amsterdam. Graduate and postdoctoral students joined addiction professionals to learn about the intersection of policy models, prevention, and evidence-based treatment and ways to bridge the gap between research and practice. Dennis McCarty, Ph.D., Oregon Health & Science University, is academic director of the Dutch Summer Institute.
