On average, an adult’s brain weighs about 3 pounds—not much. But without that organ, you wouldn’t be you. The brain is the command center for your entire body. It controls your thoughts, feelings, and movement—and that’s just for starters.

To better understand the brain, scientists have divided it into parts and regions. Does it seem strange to say that specific parts of your brain control your emotions and your breathing? It’s true.

The short video below explores the parts and regions of the brain. It answers the following questions, and lots more:

  • Which region of the brain has the most to do with your personality and your ability to solve problems, and continues to develop until you’re about 25 years old?
  • Which region helps your eyes to see?
  • Which region controls your physical coordination and the ability to find your way out of a maze?
  • Which part contains the reward circuit, which lets you feel good and is also involved with addiction?
