Using Single Molecule and Vesicle Resolution in Synaptic Transmission Studies[View Abstract]

The release of neurotransmitters from synaptic terminals is the primary means by which neurons communicate with each other. Key to understanding the process of synaptic transmission are the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic vesicle trafficking, docking, and release. In recent years scientists have identified syntaxins, synapsins, synapotagmins, SNAP-25, VAMP, clathrin, dynamin, AP-2, AP-3, and ARF as key players involved in these processes. This symposium presents new results regarding key players mediating and regulating exocytosis and vesicle recycling.
