Meeting Summary

2005 Meeting Overview:

This year’s Blending Initiative Conference (Smart Practice, Practical Science: Blending Treatment and Research) held June 6-7, 2005 in Miami Beach, Florida, brought together clinicians and providers for a weekend of skill-building workshops and presentations from leading professionals.  This conference built on the ongoing productive partnerships between researchers and practitioners in the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN), which are proving to be a critical part of translating interventions into clinical practice.

This two day conference featured plenary presentations, delivered by Drs. Nora Volkow, T. K. Li, and David Vlahov.  In addition, the Eileen Pencer Memorial Lecture, from Dr. A. Thomas McLellan, discussed addiction treatment quality, accountability, and outcomes from the perspective of chronic care.  There were also 22 unique breakout sessions available, covering topics ranging from the effectiveness Buprenorphine detoxification to emerging drug problems in Florida.
